石造構造物や記念碑の建設・保守のため、硬い石や軟らかい石のブロックや板を切断、加工し、石に模様や像を彫る。
主な業務
- 採石した石にくさびを打ち込み、板やブロックに割る
- 花こう岩、大理石などの石の板やブロックを選別し、等級に分ける
- 手工具や手持ちの電動工具を用いて、花こう岩や大理石などの建築用・記念碑用の石を切断、成形、仕上げする
- 後工程の切断、平削り、穴あけなどの加工に向けて、石に型を当てて形状を墨付けする
- 記念碑や慰霊碑に使う石のブロックに文字、像、模様を彫る
- 記念碑や慰霊碑の建立で石を据え付ける
- 古い建物、教会、記念碑の石造部分を補修、交換する
