検眼士や眼科医が処方した眼鏡やコンタクトレンズを合わせる。フレームや眼鏡の組み立てや修理も行う。

なるには

眼鏡技術者になるには資格と経験が必要である。この仕事のための学習や訓練を受けるには、通常NCEA Level 2が必要である。必須：18歳以上であること、オーストラレーシア眼鏡調製学院を通じてCertificate IV in Optical Dispensing New Zealandを修了すること、ニュージーランドの眼鏡店での100時間の実務経験、年次業務証明書。登録機関：ニュージーランド検眼医・眼鏡技術者委員会（Optometrists and Dispensing Opticians Board）。
