How to become a Copywriter
Also called: Advertising copy creator
Writes the copy (wording) used in advertising and promotion, describing the features of products and services clearly and well.
Main tasks
- Meeting the client company to understand the aim of the advertising and the details and features of the product or service
- Talking to sales media and marketing staff to get information about the product or service
- Researching advertising trends and consumer tastes to work out the direction of the advertisement
- Deciding the direction of the copy with the director and designer
- Interviewing clients and visiting sites, and writing up what they find
- Making rough sketches of the advertisement and presenting them to the client
- Getting the client's approval for the slogans and copy and making changes if needed
- Writing promotional materials such as articles, booklets and brochures
- Writing body copy
- Making visual ideas to go with the copy
- Writing for magazines and websites
