How to become one
No particular education or qualification is required to start, but a forklift operator or hazardous materials handler qualification is an advantage. Warehouse workers join warehouse companies, transport companies and similar employers. Warehouse operators must have one warehouse manager for each warehouse. The warehouse manager qualification can be gained through work experience and a training course. Other qualifications such as hazardous materials handler, crane operator, forklift operator, slinging, and stacking work supervisor widen the work you can do. In cold storage warehouses, qualifications such as refrigeration machinery manager are an advantage. The work is physical, so a certain level of fitness is needed. To make sure goods are not damaged or lost, you also need responsibility, attention, a good memory and spatial awareness.
