How to become a Conservator
Also called: Art works conservator, Artifact conservator, Book conservator, Fine art and polychrome conservator, Fossil conservator, Natural history specimen conservator, Fine art and polychrome conservator, Fossil conservator
Conservator plans and organises the conservation of materials and objects in libraries, archives, museums, art galleries and other institutions. He/she may apply restoration techniques to conserve the objects.
Main tasks
- Evaluating and preserving records for administrative, historical, legal, evidential and other purposes
- Researching the origin, distribution and use of materials and objects of cultural and historical interest
- Organising, developing and maintaining collections of artistic, cultural, scientific or historically significant items
- Researching into, appraising, and developing, organising and preserving historically significant and valuable documents such as government papers, private papers, photographs, maps, manuscripts and audio-visual materials
- Preparing scholarly papers and reports
