Energy portfolio manager analyses and recommends strategies for portfolio optimisation, such as purchase timings and quantities for trading activities in the organisation. He/she also evaluates trade entries and profit and loss reports to assess the business impact, manages market risks and may provide advice on the energy market trends and developments. He/she may also conduct market research to analyse and forecast trends in competitors’ pricing strategies, and propose revisions to product pricing and structures.
Main tasks
- Analysing financial or trading information to produce forecasts of business, industry, and economic conditions for use in making investment decisions
- Maintaining knowledge and staying abreast of developments in the fields of industrial technology, business, finance, and economic theory
- Interpreting data affecting investment programmes, such as price, yield, stability, future trends in investment risks, and economic influences
- Monitoring fundamental economic, industrial, and corporate developments through the analysis of information obtained from financial publications and services, investment banking firms, government agencies, trade publications, company sources, and personal interviews
- Optimising purchase timings and quantities for trading activities in the organisation
- Preparing plans of action for investment based on financial analyses
