Threat analysis specialist plans strategies to pre-empt potential threats in an organisation’s cyber related systems. He/she runs tests and analyses to identify IT assets that are prone to cyber threats and attacks and implements threat mitigation strategies for different areas of the IT assets to ensure they are safe from cyber-attacks. He/she also monitors the open web and identifies potential threats and groups or individuals capable of attempting cyber-attacks.
Main tasks
- Developing plans to safeguard computer files against accidental or unauthorised modification, destruction, or disclosure and to meet emergency data processing needs
- Monitoring current reports of computer viruses to determine when to update virus protection systems
- Performing risk assessments and executing tests of data processing system to ensure functioning of data processing activities and security measures
