How to become a Dentist
Official title: Dentists
Prevents, diagnoses and treats diseases of the teeth, mouth and related structures, and provides restorative and orthodontic dental services.
Main tasks
- Prevent, diagnose and treat diseases and disorders of the teeth and mouth
- Carry out surgical treatment such as tooth extraction, biopsies and orthodontic surgery
- Diagnose disease, injury and deformity of the teeth, jaw and related structures using X-rays, saliva tests and other methods
- Provide restorative dental treatment such as implants, orthodontics and fillings
- Provide oral health services such as gum disease treatment and fluoride, and promote oral hygiene
- Fit dentures, bridges and crowns, and explain how to clean and care for dentures

- University department: Medicine & Dentistry degrees, Offered by 24 universities in Taiwan
- Licence (national exam): Regulated profession. To practise as a dentist you must pass the national Professional and Technical Examination (專門職業及技術人員考試) for 牙醫師 and hold the certificate. Listed in the annex to article 2 of the Enforcement Rules of the Professional and Technical Examinations Act, item 6.
