Diagnoses and treats illness and injury using traditional Chinese medicine.
Main tasks
- Examine patients and diagnose illness using traditional Chinese medicine methods to assess their health
- Diagnose and treat illness in specialist fields such as internal medicine, external medicine (wai ke, a traditional Chinese medicine speciality), paediatrics, gynaecology, ophthalmology, haemorrhoids and traumatology using traditional Chinese medicine methods

- University department: Medicine & Dentistry degrees, Offered by 24 universities in Taiwan
- Licence (national exam): Regulated profession. To practise as a doctor of Chinese medicine you must pass the national Professional and Technical Examination (專門職業及技術人員考試) for 中醫師 and hold the certificate. Listed in the annex to article 2 of the Enforcement Rules of the Professional and Technical Examinations Act, item 7.
