Glass and ceramics plant operators operate glass and ceramic furnaces, kilns and other equipment.
Main tasks
- Operate glassmaking furnaces to melt and fuse glass
- Operate equipment to coat and temper glassware; grind, drill, frost, decorate, wash or polish glass and glass products; draw molten glass into glass fibre; and make flat glass by the float process
- Operate equipment that presses and blows molten glass to form containers such as bottles and jars
- Operate equipment to mix clay and water to form pottery products; operate glaze making and grinding equipment
- Operate equipment to fire pottery and porcelain and bake bricks and tiles
