How to become a Life Science Technician
Official title: Life Science Technicians
Provides technical support to life science professionals in researching, analysing and experimenting on living things, and in developing and applying knowledge in agriculture, natural resource management, environmental protection, biology, botany, zoology, microbiology, and cell and molecular biology, including related products and processes.
Main tasks
- Help design, set up and run experiments; set up, calibrate, operate and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment; collect and prepare specimens, samples, chemical reagents, slides and cultures
- Monitor experiments to make sure correct laboratory quality control procedures and health and safety guidelines are followed; observe experimental data and analyse, calculate, record and report results using scientific methods
- Preserve, classify and record specimens and samples; use computers to develop models and analyse data
- Carry out work using complex and high-powered equipment; take part in research, development and manufacture of products and processes
- Order and store laboratory supplies; maintain related databases
