Locomotive engine drivers drive rail vehicles carrying passengers and freight.
Main tasks
- Drive steam, diesel-electric or electric rail vehicles
- Drive underground or elevated railway trains, and rail vehicles for haulage in underground mines or surface quarries
- Watch for hazards on the track, observe signals and instruments, and keep in contact with traffic controllers to ensure trains run safely
