Metal finishing, plating and coating machine operators operate equipment for surface finishing, electroplating and dip coating of metal articles and parts to give them rust resistance, wear resistance, electromagnetic properties or decorative finishes.
Main tasks
- Operate equipment to clean metal articles in preparation for electroplating, galvanising, enamelling or other treatment
- Operate electroplating or hot-dip equipment to coat metal products
- Operate thermal spray equipment to apply protective or decorative coatings to metal products or increase protection against surface wear or damage
- Operate equipment that treats metal articles chemically or by heat to make them rust-resistant
- Check plating thickness using micrometers, callipers or other instruments, record data and complete production logs
