How to become an Agricultural Engineer
Official Chinese title (2022 occupational classification): 农业工程技术人员
Handles the use of farm machinery, soil and water conservation on farmland and land use, controls rural buildings and the farm growing environment, and carries out technical work in processing farm products, rural energy and farm electrification.
Main tasks
- Surveying farm machinery needs, assessing the level of mechanisation, promoting technology, managing equipment, and carrying out farm machinery testing, inspection and safety supervision
- Surveying basic soil conditions, monitoring soil composition, drawing up plans for building up prime farmland and controlling soil erosion, and carrying out saline land improvement and soil and water conservation works
- Surveying farm land resources and developing, using and improving farmland
- Overseeing the construction and running of rural buildings, farm facilities and the farm growing environment, and protecting fields against freezing, frost and hail
- Managing breeding, production and the storage and keeping fresh of farm products in protected agriculture, and providing management services for livestock housing and equipment
- Managing and maintaining equipment, designing processes, controlling production and handling storage and transport of finished products in processing farm products
- Surveying rural energy resources such as animal power, solar, wind, hydro and biomass, and providing services to run and maintain energy technology and facilities
- Planning farm electrification projects, designing and carrying out rural power network upgrades, and providing training, advice and publicity on saving energy, cutting emissions and using electricity safely
