Also called: Aluminium Electrolysis Operator, Aluminium and Alloy Casting Operator, Pot Computer Control Operator, Metal Tapping Operator, General Potline Operator, Cell Relining Worker, Pot Tending Machine Operator, Materials Handling and Fume Treatment Operator, Carbon Anode Production Operator
Operates electrolytic cells to turn alumina into aluminium metal by molten salt electrolysis.
Main tasks
- Breaking the crust and feeding alumina and fluoride salts
- Adjusting settings on pot controllers to control the cells
- Changing anodes and raising the busbar with pot tending machines
- Making, baking and assembling anode and cathode carbon blocks
- Tapping, moving and casting molten aluminium or electrolyte
- Refining, casting and strapping primary aluminium or aluminium alloys
- Cleaning fumes and recovering fluoride materials
- Clearing furnace chambers and relining cells and melting furnaces
- Measuring anode current and electrolyte temperature and recording analysis data
- Maintaining equipment, clearing faults and keeping production records
