How to become an Animal Husbandry Specialist
Official Chinese title (2022 occupational classification): 畜牧技术人员
Promotes and applies techniques for raising livestock, poultry and specialty farmed animals, conserving their genetic resources, selecting and improving breeds, breeding, making feed and feeding.
Main tasks
- Surveying and analysing where livestock, poultry and specialty farmed animal resources are and what they are like, and proposing and carrying out protection measures
- Drawing up breed improvement plans, carrying out selection and promoting breeding techniques
- Promoting improved breeds and managing breeding stock production
- Working out the nutrition animals need to grow and produce, promoting feed formulation, and developing and promoting new feeds and additives
- Promoting advanced feeding methods, techniques and overall management
- Promoting techniques for processing and storing animal products
- Promoting biotechnology in livestock and poultry production
- Collecting and monitoring livestock industry statistics, drafting development plans and suggesting strategies
- Overseeing and testing the quality and safety of feed, additives, breeding stock and animal products
