Raises parent stock of seaweeds and higher aquatic plants and propagates seedlings with nursery beds, ponds and other facilities.
Main tasks
- Checking, repairing and disinfecting nursery facilities, equipment and tools and making seed collectors
- Choosing and conditioning parent plants and controlling temperature and light to help spores or buds develop
- Triggering spore release and settlement and sowing or planting seedlings
- Mixing and applying fertiliser or nutrient solution and adjusting water quality
- Managing nursery beds, watching growth, clearing weeds and unwanted algae and controlling pests and diseases
- Transplanting seedlings, checking, counting and packing them, holding and transporting them
