Weaves cloth by traditional hand methods on hand looms and makes hand painted, batik, splash dyed and tie dyed crafts.
Main tasks
- Plotting designs, setting up pattern harnesses and threading traditional hand looms, then weaving
- Painting patterns on cloth by hand with brushes dipped in dye, or outlining designs with resist
- Mixing dye, brushing it on cloth and letting it dry naturally
- Drawing designs on cloth with melted wax, then dyeing, removing wax, rinsing, drying and ironing
- Splashing or brushing dye on cloth to make coloured patterns, then rinsing, drying and ironing
- Tying cloth and dipping it in dye, then fixing, washing and drying
- Fixing flaws in finished pieces
