Builds the sets needed for film and TV shoots and creates the look of particular settings.
Main tasks
- Understanding the story or programme and the design idea, reading set drawings and requirements and writing a build plan
- Checking the location and build conditions, preparing materials and tools and advising on the budget
- Building set structures with tools and machinery
- Creating shapes and surface effects by carving, scenic painting, clay and paper modelling and drapes and backdrops to build the settings a film or show needs
- Dressing and placing the set on location to the artistic and technical needs of the shoot
- Looking after the set and giving technical support during shooting or performance and creating wind, rain, snow and other special effects
- Taking down the set after shooting
