Runs gear cutting machines to cut gear teeth into workpieces.
Main tasks
- Fitting fixtures, adjusting equipment and locating and clamping the workpiece
- Operating the CNC system, entering commands into the machine and checking its prompts
- Maintaining gear cutting tools and sharpening and repairing them
- Cutting gear teeth on hobbing, shaping, planing, shaving, honing and grinding machines
- Checking machining accuracy and working out the causes of errors
- Maintaining equipment and tooling and dealing with common faults in use
