How to become a GIS Data Technician

Also called: Geospatial Database Builder, Geospatial Modeller, GIS Project Operator
Enters data to common standards, builds databases, creates spatial models and manages, maintains and converts data formats on geographic information system (GIS) software and platforms.
Main tasks
- Entering data to standards, building databases and checking and correcting database logic with GIS software and platforms
- Making 2D, 3D and real world spatial models from collected and supporting material
- Scanning, entering and digitising non spatial data such as social and economic data and linking, overlaying and integrating it with geographic data
- Converting data between exchange formats and the storage formats needed
- Organising, storing, backing up and maintaining geographic data and databases and keeping them secure and confidential
- Maintaining geographic information, remote sensing and satellite navigation systems
