Designs integrated circuits (chips), develops manufacturing processes, packaging and testing, and develops electronic design automation (EDA) tools.

- Designing chips from algorithm and architecture through circuits to layout, and completing simulation and verification, logic synthesis, timing analysis, design for test and physical verification
- Developing chip manufacturing processes such as lithography, etching, ion implantation, cleaning, thin films and chemical mechanical polishing
- Designing chip packaging and analysing signal integrity
- Designing chip test plans and carrying out tests
- Developing EDA tools for chip design, manufacture and testing, building simulation models, extracting process parameters and standardising data formats
