How to become a Landscape Architect

Researches, plans and designs landscapes and gardens, manages their protection, construction, upkeep and running, and gives technical advice.
Main tasks
- Researching landscape architecture theory and developing related techniques
- Drawing up plans for scenic areas, heritage sites, large scale landscapes, recreation areas and urban landscapes
- Drawing up plans for urban and rural green space, park systems and biodiversity protection
- Designing parks and their buildings, green spaces, urban public spaces, scenic area landscapes, paths, features, planting and water features
- Carrying out ecological restoration and green walls and roofs, using landscape plants and protecting biodiversity
- Managing the running of scenic areas, parks and green spaces and the construction and upkeep of landscape works
- Assessing ancient and notable trees in towns and cities and reviving and protecting them
- Collecting environmental, geological, hydrological and native plant information about scenic areas and towns
- Writing tender documents for landscape projects and taking part in tenders
- Preparing bills of quantities, cost estimates, budgets and final accounts for landscape projects
- Giving technical advice on planning, building and managing landscape projects
