How to become a Non Destructive Testing Technician

Official Chinese title (2022 occupational classification): 无损检测员

Uses radiography, ultrasonic, penetrant, magnetic particle, eddy current and other non destructive testing equipment to check and judge the quality of materials, structural parts, components, equipment and buildings without damaging them.

Main tasks

Setting or choosing the testing method to suit what is being tested, the conditions and the acceptance standards
Taking samples for comparison and making test blocks
Choosing monitoring points and instrument positions and installing, adjusting and calibrating equipment
Finding surface, near surface and internal defects and their position and size without causing damage, using radiography, ultrasonic, penetrant, magnetic particle, eddy current, acoustic emission and thermal imaging instruments
Recording, calculating and judging test data
Writing test reports or helping the lead inspector write them
Checking and maintaining test equipment
