How to become a Notary
Official Chinese title (2022 occupational classification): 公证员
Works in a notary office, certifying under the law that legal acts, facts and documents are genuine and lawful.
Main tasks
- Notarising contracts, inheritances, divisions of property, company articles and similar matters
- Notarising powers of attorney, declarations, gifts and wills
- Notarising tenders and auctions
- Certifying relationships such as marriage, family ties and adoption
- Certifying personal details such as identity, birth, being alive or deceased, education and degrees, work history, posts and professional titles, and whether a person has a criminal record
- Notarising the preservation of evidence
- Certifying that signatures, seals and dates on documents are genuine and that copies match the original
- Handling deposits held by the notary, and keeping wills, estates and the property and documents linked to notarised matters
- Drafting the legal documents clients need for notarisation and answering legal questions about it
- Handling other notarisations clients ask for and matters the law says must be registered with a notary office
