How to become an Oil Production Operator
Official Chinese title (2022 occupational classification): 石油开采工
Also called: Oil Production Worker, Production Geology Worker, Water Injection Pump Operator, Oil Bailing Worker, Polymer Injection Operator, Offshore Oil and Gas Operator, Thermal Injection and Polymer Mixing Operator
Operates injection and production equipment, pumping water, polymers or steam into the reservoir under pressure to drive oil and associated gas to the wellhead and into the gathering system.
Main tasks
- Operating injection and production wells to bring oil and associated gas to the wellhead and send it on
- Collecting, checking and analysing geological and production data from production and injection wells
- Pumping clean water or treated produced water into the high pressure injection network
- Bailing oil from wells into surface tanks with bailing trucks
- Mixing polymer solution with high pressure water and injecting it into the reservoir
- Operating offshore platforms and injection and production wells to produce and process subsea oil and gas
- Making high temperature, high pressure wet steam and sending it into the steam injection network
- Mixing dry polymer powder into solution and sending it to injection stations
- Maintaining equipment, adjusting operating settings and analysing and clearing faults
