How to become a Plant and Equipment Engineer

Manages and controls equipment, plans spare parts and maintenance, and guides how equipment is used and repaired.
Main tasks
- Researching equipment management, developing inspection and repair methods, and writing and revising standards and procedures for using equipment
- Drawing up and refining plans to upgrade, retire or scrap equipment, planning spare parts needs, and organising the purchasing and management of spare parts
- Building equipment management models, simulating equipment over its whole life from start of service to scrapping, and setting maintenance plans, methods and schedules
- Installing and commissioning equipment and its hardware and software so it works well with control systems, supporting facilities and the site
- Using and maintaining digital equipment management platforms, collecting and monitoring operating data, guiding remote maintenance and organising the response to accidents and breakdowns
- Planning the workload and operating shifts of equipment sensibly
- Managing equipment records and maintenance information
