Assesses the function of residual limbs, designs, makes and fits artificial limbs, and shows people how to use them.
Main tasks
- Examining limb loss and finding out about the user's health, home and work life and what function they need to regain
- Assessing the movement of the residual limb
- Planning how to restore function and fit an artificial limb, and planning training in its use
- Designing artificial limbs using biomechanics
- Guiding technicians in making artificial limbs
- Assessing how well artificial limbs fit, and showing users how to put them on and train with them
- Following up to review how well artificial limbs are working
