How to become a Wildlife Ranger
Official Chinese title (2022 occupational classification): 野生动物保护员
Also called: Wildlife Keeper and Breeder, Wildlife Research Assistant, Hunting Guide, Wildlife Disease Control Worker, Wildlife Monitoring Worker, Wildlife Caretaker
Protects wild animals and their habitats, rescues and breeds rare and endangered species, and helps use wildlife resources sensibly.
Main tasks
- Patrolling, monitoring and collecting data in reserves or habitats, stopping and reporting poaching, habitat damage and illegal entry, and helping fight wildlife crime
- Keeping and breeding wild animals in captivity, preparing feed, caring for adults and young, mating animals and preventing disease
- Harvesting, cutting and processing usable wild animals and what they produce into products
- Hunting wild animals lawfully and responsibly
- Giving technical guidance and supervision for legal hunting in hunting areas and handling the catch as required
- Taking visitors to watch wildlife
