How to become an arts teacher

Also called: Dance teacher (private tuition), Drama teacher (private tuition), Painting teacher (private tuition), Sculpture teacher (private tuition)
Other arts teachers teach students in the practice, theory and performance of dance, drama, visual and other arts (excluding music) outside the mainstream primary, secondary and higher education systems, but may provide private or small group tuition as an extracurricular activity in association with mainstream educational institutions
Main tasks
- Assessing the students’ level of ability and determining learning needs
- Planning, preparing and delivering programmes of study, lessons and workshops for individual students and groups
- Preparing and presenting material on the theory of the subject area being studied
- Instructing and demonstrating practical aspects of drama, dance, visual or other arts
- Assigning exercises and work relevant to students’ level of ability, interests and talents
- Assessing students and offering advice, criticism and encouragement
- Revising curricula, course content, course materials and methods of instruction
- Preparing students for examinations, performance and assessments
- Arranging visits and tours to exhibitions and performances
- Organizing and assisting in performances or exhibitions of students’ work
