How to become an Event Planner
Also called: Planning clerk
Plans events at an event planning and management company or similar, coordinating with organisers, sponsors, exhibitors and others, and runs them, including attracting visitors and managing proceedings and the venue on the day.
Main tasks
- Taking on orders from businesses and others that want to hold events
- Winning event planning and management work through competitions and tenders run by local governments and others
- Drawing up event proposals based on the wishes of the people involved
- Holding meetings with the people involved to decide the size, content, budget and so on of events
- Managing schedules up to the day of the event
- Running publicity with the help of the people involved
- Finding event staff and deciding their roles
- Contracting suppliers for on-site work such as setting up the venue, guiding visitors and security
- Training event staff
- Running proceedings and managing the venue, directing so the event runs safely
- Reporting to the people involved and settling accounts after the event
