How to become one
No particular education or qualifications are needed to start. Few people become caddies straight after high school. Many caddies are homemakers working at a nearby golf club, and some students do it as a part-time job. At first you are trained by the caddie master (see below) and go out on the course with experienced caddies to learn the course layout. The work is outdoors, so you need the stamina to walk long distances, the eyesight to follow the ball (glasses or contacts are fine) and knowledge of golf rules and technique. A spirit of service, helping players enjoy their game, is also needed. A golf club's caddie master manages caddies, training them and arranging schedules. Assigning players to caddies each morning is also the caddie master's job. Some long-serving caddies become caddie masters.
