How to become a Home Care Service Coordinator

Manages the content of home care services so that home care is delivered properly.

Main tasks

After building a track record as a coordinator, some become managers of a care office or set up their own. You can also widen your work by gaining the care manager or certified care worker qualifications. As well as care knowledge and skills, you need the observation skills to understand clients' condition and needs accurately and see what support is right, and the judgement to act quickly in emergencies. You also need communication skills to work smoothly with many people, including clients, their families, care managers and home care workers, and the flexibility to adjust to circumstances. For paperwork, you need knowledge and skills in spreadsheet and word processing software.
