How to become one
No particular education or qualification is required to start. Rooms are cleaned between one guest checking out and the next checking in. If one person handles about 10 rooms a day, there are only about 15 to 20 minutes for each room, so you need concentration and the organisation to work efficiently. When time is tight, two or three people may clean one room together, so teamwork and clear communication are important too. You need to like things clean and be careful and tidy, and a certain level of fitness is needed because making beds and similar tasks are physical. At hotels with many foreign guests, simple spoken English may be needed.
