How to become one
No particular education or qualification is required to start, but it helps to have studied agriculture or horticulture, chemistry, genetic engineering or pharmacy at university, or to have graduated from an agricultural senmon gakko (vocational college). Automation in farming is attracting attention, so expertise in information technology is also useful. To improve the quality of the vegetables you grow, you need a positive, motivated attitude: breeding better varieties, keeping up with new growing techniques and taking in related knowledge.
