How to become a Plywood Production Worker

Peels thin sheets (veneers) from logs and bonds them together under pressure with adhesive to make plywood.

How to become one

No particular education or qualification is required to start. People generally learn the skills on the job after joining. Related qualifications include those certified by the Japan Wood Technology Association, such as timber bonding specialist, timber drying specialist and timber cutting specialist. When a plywood factory applies to be certified as a JAS (Japanese Agricultural Standards) approved factory, whether it has staff with the bonding, drying and cutting qualifications is taken into account. Plywood production is almost all standing work and includes manual tasks, so physical strength is needed. The production process is a flow line, so stages must be closely linked, and there is much team work, so cooperation is needed.
