How to become a Weaver and Loom Operator
Also called: Weaving equipment operator, Loom setter, Warp drawer-in, Loom operator, Weaving worker
Runs and monitors looms to make woven fabric.
Main tasks
- Operating automatic winders to make wound yarn
- Feeding spinning bobbins into automatic winders, clearing empty bobbins and rewinding leftover yarn
- Operating warping machines to wind the required number of warp threads onto a beam at a set length
- Operating sizing machines to coat yarn with starch to strengthen it
- Operating drawing-in machines to set the sized beam on the loom
- Operating pirn winders to rewind weft yarn so it passes efficiently between the warp threads
- Running looms, adding yarn and repairing broken threads
- Operating shuttle looms to weave fabric from prepared yarn
- Operating shuttleless looms to weave fabric from prepared yarn
- Operating cloth inspection machines to check products, fix flaws and grade them
- Operating folding machines to fold products
- Checking the quantity and quality of finished fabric and sending it out
- Taking unfinished fabric off the loom
- Adjusting, servicing and inspecting machines
- Ordering yarn and machine parts and managing stock
- Rearranging machines in the factory

How to become one
