Aeronautical engineering technician performs technical tasks, normally under the direction of an aeronautical engineer, contributory to design, development, construction, maintenance and repair of aircraft. He/she specialises in airframes, undercarriages, braking systems and other mechanical equipment for aircraft. He/she may specialise in a particular type of aircraft, such as passenger, cargo or military aircraft or helicopters.
Main tasks
- Providing technical assistance in research on and development of machines and mechanical installations, facilities and components, or testing prototypes related to transport equipment
- Designing and preparing layouts of transport equipment according to the specifications given
- Preparing detailed estimates of quantities and costs of materials and labour required for manufacture and installation according to the specifications given
- Monitoring technical aspects of manufacture, utilisation, maintenance and repair of transport equipment to ensure satisfactory performance and compliance with specifications and regulations
- Assembling and installing new and modified transport equipment’s mechanical assemblies, components, machine tools and controls, and hydraulic power systems
- Conducting tests of transport equipment, collecting and analysing data, and assembling and installing vehicle mechanical assemblies in support of transport and vehicle engineers
- Ensuring that transport equipment mechanical engineering designs and finished work are within specifications, regulations and contract provisions
