Government social benefits official advises individuals and organisations on government laws, rules and regulations concerning government benefit programmes and the determination and disbursement of payments or referral to services, as well as on the public’s rights and obligations. He/she aids clients in the applications for benefits such as sickness, maternity, pensions, invalidity, unemployment and family benefits. He/she may investigate the client’s right to benefits and suggest an appropriate course of action.

- Advising individuals and organisations on government laws, rules and regulations concerning government benefit programmes and the determination and disbursement of payments or referral to services, as well as on the public’s rights and obligations
- Performing related investigative and administrative tasks to record findings, document compliance problems or inappropriate business practices and to prepare reports and correspondence
