How to become a Mathematician
Also called: Algebraist, Applied mathematics scientist, Cipher expert, Cryptanalyst, Geometrician, Mathematics science researcher, Algebraist, Applied mathematics scientist, Cryptanalyst
Mathematician applies mathematical principles and methods to solve problems. He/she researches on new or improved methods for the application of mathematical theory or analysis. He/she may act as the adviser or consultant on various applications of mathematical research.
Main tasks
- Studying, improving and developing mathematical and actuarial theories and techniques
- Advising on or applying mathematical principles, models and techniques to a wide range of tasks in the fields of engineering, natural, social or life sciences
- Conducting logical analyses of management problems, especially in terms of input-output effectiveness, and formulating mathematical models of each problem usually for programming and solution by computer
- Preparing scientific papers and reports
- Supervising the work of mathematical, operations research analysts and actuarial assistants
