How to become a Statistician
Also called: Bioinformatics specialist, Biometrician, Biostatistician, Demographer, Economics statistician, Education statistician, Finance statistician, Health statistician, Research officer (statistical), Survey statistician, Assistant Research Executive, Research Executive
Statistician conducts research and improves or develops statistical concepts, theories and methods. He/she advises on the applicability and efficiency of statistical methods in their practical application in such fields as engineering, business and social and other sciences. He/she evaluates, organises, analyses and interprets data and presents them in forms suitable for users.
Main tasks
- Studying, improving and developing statistical theories and techniques
- Applying statistics, probability and risk theory to assess potential financial impacts of future events
- Planning and organising surveys and other statistical collections, and designing questionnaires
- Evaluating, processing, analysing, and interpreting statistical data and preparing them for publication
- Advising on or applying various data collection methods and statistical methods and techniques, and determining reliability of findings, especially in such fields as business or medicine as well as in other areas of natural, social or life sciences
- Preparing scientific papers and reports, including those in the form of visualisations such as graphs, charts, and dashboards
- Supervising the work of statistical assistants and statistical clerks
