Directs and controls aircraft in the air and on the ground using radio, radar and light signals, reviews and approves flight plans, and informs flight crews and operators about weather, facilities, flight plans and route conditions.

- Direct and control aircraft arriving at and leaving airports and moving on the ground
- Review and approve flight plans; inform flight crews and operators about weather, facilities, flight plans and route conditions
- Take charge of emergencies and arrange search and rescue services and procedures; direct aircraft and service vehicles on or near runways
