How to become a Lawyer or Public Advocate
Official title: Lawyers and Public Advocates
Gives legal advice, drafts legal documents and represents clients in court. Public defenders are also included.
Main tasks
- Give clients legal advice and act for them in legal matters
- Research legal theory and principles, and related specialist law and court decisions
- Gather evidence to prepare a defence or legal proceedings, and interview clients and witnesses to establish the facts of a case
- Develop a strategy based on the findings of a case, and argue in court and negotiate in legal disputes on behalf of clients
- Draft legal documents such as contracts and wills, and explain legal opinions
Ways in
- University department: Law & Justice degrees, Offered by 29 universities in Taiwan
- Licence (national exam): Regulated profession. To practise as a lawyer you must pass the national Professional and Technical Examination (專門職業及技術人員考試) for 律師 and hold the certificate. Listed in the annex to article 2 of the Enforcement Rules of the Professional and Technical Examinations Act, item 1.
