Stonemasons, stone cutters and carvers build and lay stone structures, cut or dress stone into blocks, slabs and pieces for building and repairing stone structures and monuments, and carve designs in stone.
Main tasks
- Build and lay stone structures
- Cut rough stone into slabs or blocks
- Select and grade granite, marble and other stone
- Cut, shape and finish granite, marble and other stone and headstones using hand or power tools
- Draw designs and mark stone for sawing, planing, drilling and cutting
- Cut, carve designs on and install stone for monuments
- Repair and replace stonework on old buildings, churches and monuments
