Structural metal preparers and erectors mark out, drill, assemble, shape, erect and frame metal beams and columns for large structures such as buildings, roads, bridges, ports, dams and ships, and rivet joints and install piles.
Main tasks
- Mark out positions for drilling, cutting and shaping in buildings, ships and other structures
- Erect steel frames for buildings, bridges and other structures
- Assemble and erect ships' steel frames and other metal fittings
- Shape or install metal plate sections of ship structures
- Join metal framework by hand, machine or pneumatic hammer
