How to become a Surveyor or Cartographer
Official title: Surveyors and Cartographers
Surveys the natural and built features of the land, and produces maps and diagrams.
Main tasks
- Determine boundaries and exact positions, mark topographic symbols, and measure areas on maps and building plans
- Survey mines, record surface and underground features, and mark ore veins
- Survey seas, rivers and lakes for navigation and harbour construction
- Interpret and process aerial and satellite images to produce or update maps
- Advise on and research mapmaking techniques and design
Ways in
- University department: Architecture & Built Environment degrees, Offered by 34 universities in Taiwan
- Licence (national exam): Regulated profession. To practise as a professional surveyor you must pass the national Professional and Technical Examination (專門職業及技術人員考試) for 測量技師 and hold the certificate. Listed in the annex to article 2 of the Enforcement Rules of the Professional and Technical Examinations Act, item 9.
