How to become a Town and Traffic Planner
Official title: Town and Traffic Planners
Plans, designs and oversees plans and policies for urban development, parks, roads, scenic areas, commercial and industrial zones and transport systems, and advises on land use and regional development.
Main tasks
- Plan, design and coordinate the development of urban areas
- Compile and analyse how economic, industrial, legal, policy, cultural, demographic, social, physical and environmental factors affect land use
- Consult government, communities and experts, plan and recommend land use and development, and present design reports
- Review and prepare environmental impact assessments for public works such as parks, schools, institutions, airports and railways
- Plan and recommend road traffic routes and public transport systems
Ways in
- University department: Architecture & Built Environment degrees, Offered by 34 universities in Taiwan
- Licence (national exam): Regulated profession. To practise as a professional urban planning or traffic engineer you must pass the national Professional and Technical Examination (專門職業及技術人員考試) for 都市計畫技師、交通工程技師 and hold the certificate. Listed in the annex to article 2 of the Enforcement Rules of the Professional and Technical Examinations Act, item 18.
