How to become a Cabler
Official title: Cabler (Data and Telecommunications)
Installs internal telecommunications and data cabling, equipment and peripherals for computer networks, telephony, cable television and monitored security and fire alarms.
Main tasks
- Installs and connects cables to distribution frames, cabinets and other telecommunications equipment
- Identifies, locates and rectifies faults in data and telecommunications cable installations
- Sets up and configures data communication systems, local area networks and wireless communication networks
Ways in
- Apprenticeship: Certificate III in Data and Voice Communications. Trade occupations are usually entered through an apprenticeship: paid work plus this qualification, typically 3 to 4 years.
- TAFE and VET: Certificate III in Data and Voice Communications (UEE30420); Certificate II in Telecommunications Technology (ICT20319); Certificate IV in Electrical - Data and Voice Communications (UEE40220); Certificate II in Data and Voice Communications (UEE20720)
- Licence or registration: Registration or licensing is required.
