WAM calculator

Add each unit's mark out of 100 and its credit points to see your weighted average mark.

How WAM is worked out

Multiply each unit's mark by its credit points, add them up, then divide by your total credit points. Units worth more credit points count for more.

Example: 80 in a 12 credit point unit and 68 in a 6 credit point unit give (80 脳 12 + 68 脳 6) 梅 18 = 76.

A common Australian grade scale

HD (High Distinction)85+
D (Distinction)75 to 84
C (Credit)65 to 74
P (Pass)50 to 64
F (Fail)0 to 49

Many Australian universities use these bands; some use different cut-offs, so check your own university's.

Questions

Is WAM the same at every university?

No. Some universities weight later years more heavily or leave out first-year units. This calculator weights by credit points only; your university's rules say what it counts.

What is the difference between WAM and GPA?

WAM averages your actual marks out of 100. GPA turns each mark into a grade band first, so an 85 and a 100 count the same.

Do failed units count towards my WAM?

Usually the mark you received counts like any other, so a fail lowers your WAM. Check your university's rules for withdrawn units and repeated units.

Is this my official WAM?

No. It is an estimate from the marks you enter. Your university's academic record is the official figure.
