How to become a Health Promotion Officer
Also called: Community Health Worker, Health Educator
Assists health and community groups to improve the health of individuals and the community by raising awareness of healthy lifestyles, disease and disability, and other health-related issues.
Main tasks
- Develops communication objectives in relation to health issues
- Identifies the audience most at need or at risk and establishes the most appropriate method to reach that audience
- Undertakes research to make sure that data is correct and current
- Writes material and sets up displays to assist in the promotion of health issues
- Gives presentations to community groups on health issues to increase public awareness
- May work in conjunction with other organisations or government departments
